Timeline
- Winter 2011: First started learning about the overall process and selecting courses
- May 2011: First application was to UW Engineering department and this was back in Summer 2011. Took a few weeks of meeting specific people in a specific order and explaining my case and getting signatures.
- May 25 2011: UW Engineering approved my course selections from HKUST's website
- June 8 2011: Met Peter Roe, who oversees UW Eng's Exchange programs. My application was submitted to UW's exchange office shortly after this
- June-July 2011: Some Pre-departure sessions and info sessions were held for outgoing students
- Aug 12 2011: UW International Exchange office emails with instructions on filling out forms, deadline Sept 23
- Sept 20 2011: Date when the proper link for the form was finally put online
- Sept 2011: Applying to scholarships through Sanford Flemming Foundation as well as other sources. Also started researching flights and tracking it in a spreadsheet
- Nov 1 2011: Received an official offer package from HKUST at UW. Most pressing deadline was a visa application that was due Nov 15 2011.
- Nov 24 2011: Researching best methods to move CAD funds to HKD be able to spend it easily while in HK. Seems easiest method is a wire to a newly opened HSBC account in HK.
- Nov 30 2011: Deadline for residence application
Melody's Exchange Timeline
- March 2011: Began contacting UW Staff about HKUST exchange. Main contact was Andreea Ciucurita, Study Abroad Manager of International Exchanges. Tip: START EARLY!!
- March - May 2011: Looked for course equivalents, but ended up deciding to take electives. Both Andreea and Krista Mills were very helpful in this process if you need to take course equivalents.
- May 2011: Began looking at courses offered by HKUST
- Aug 12 2011: Received nomination from Andreea for exchange program at HKUST. Application process includes ordering transcript (tip: do it as soon as you can because it takes 1 week for processing), completing the exchange application form and providing passport copy.
- Aug 2011: Began looking at scholarships and bursaries available to exchange students. One particularly good one is the Ontario International Exchange Opportunity Scholarship (I received $2500 from them!). Here is the UW Awards site
- Nov 1 2011: Received Acceptance Package from Andreea for HKUST!
